Rome, 4th July 2018. The XXII edition of the International Fair Play Menarini Award was presented in Rome, in the Salone D’Onore of CONI, the Italian National Olympic Committee.
In the ‘home’ of Italian sports, the programme of the 2018 edition, which will come to a close on July 19th with the award ceremony in Castiglion Fiorentino (Arezzo), was officially revealed, along with this year’s list of award winners.
To name just a few of the sportsmen and women who have been selected by an international jury, there will be former NBA champion Tony Kuckoc, Vanessa Ferrari, the first Italian gymnast to win a gold medal at a World Championship, Giovanni Trapattoni, and former rugby player Marco Bortolami, as well as many others.
The International Fair Play Award was created in 1997, with the aim of raising awareness on the greater values of sport. Over the years, recognition has been given to important and significant sportsmen and women for their personal conduct of high moral value as well as sports institutions for their initiatives which have brought the two worlds of sport and society closer together.
For 6 consecutive years now, Pharmaceutical Group Menarini has been a true ‘travel companion’ for the Fair Play Award, associating its brand name and its mission to this important initiative, subsequently becoming Title Sponsor. "We support the Fair Play Menarini Award with enthusiasm and conviction," declared Ennio Troiano, Corporate Human Resources Director Menarini Group, "an absolutely unique event within the world of sports." Acknowledging the ability of those sports champions who have been able to not only combine ethical conduct and respect for the rules, but also excel in their chosen sport, represents a message of hope and trust for all those young athletes who are just starting out in the world of sport".
