The Fair Play Menarini International Award was established in 1997 and for the past 25 years has continued to showcase the best side of sport - that of 'fair play', of respect for yourself and your opponent, that of non-violence and non-discrimination.
A quarter of a century ago, the Award set out to make young sportsmen and women aware of the importance of becoming champions fairly, counting on one’s own strengths, adopting a sense of sacrifice, and respecting the rules.
The Menarini Group, finding its own values reflected in this mission, decided almost a decade ago to associate its name with the Award with the intent of bringing out the principles and ethical behaviour that lie at the core of fair play, in every aspect, including the workplace.

The "Ambassadors" of Fair Play, both on a national and international level, are undisputed champions of sport and fair competition and include names like Zico, Valentina Vezzali, Batistuta, Fisichella, Bergomi, Innerhofer, Carolina Kostner, Klammer, George Weah, Carlton Meyers, Michael Schumacher, Isinbaeva, Eriksson, Danilovic, Franco Lauro, the Abbagnale siblings, Kukoc, Inzaghi, Giusy Versace, Castrogiovanni, to name just a few.
But those who step onto the stage at the Fair Play Menarini Award ceremony are not just the great champions that everyone knows, but also many other sportsmen and women who, even if their correctness and fair play may have not come into the spotlight as much, are equally important.
In fact, the Fair Play Menarini Award acknowledges and rewards students who excel not only in sport but also in their studies; sportsmen and women who, have nevertheless become an example for others by holding out their hand to their opponent and helping them get up in an unfavourable moment; and sports journalists who, with professionalism and respect, have depicted in words not only those matches that have been won, but also those that have been lost, evoking emotions and revealing the most admirable side of sport – the very same way the International Fair Play Menarini Award does.
Top-level sportsmen and women have a responsability that goes above and beyond honouring their team, their sport or the nation they represent.
