A Monograph on the life and works of the Friar was presented in Florence
Fra Giovanni da Fiesole, known to the world as Fra Angelico, "Angelic friar”, truly believed that each brush stroke came from divine inspiration and that his paintings would help to save the souls of the faithful. This year Menarini enriched its historic art series by dedicating a volume to the Patron Saint of artists: Fra Angelico.
Fra Angelico was a Dominican Friar and Renaissance painter. Most of his paintings, known for their bright colours and delicate brush strokes, were created in Florence, in the Convent of San Marco, and it was just a few steps away from the place where the friar and artist lived that Menarini presented the monograph dedicated to him.
On 22nd September, in the Aula Magna of the University of Florence, Eike Schmidt, Director of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, and the author Renzo Villa presented the volume, published by Menarini with Pacini Editore, which describes the life and works of the Artist Friar.
“Fra Angelico is one of the most important and poetic painters of the 15th Century. Fra Angelico perfectly describes the sweetness which is so emblematic of his style. It is a great benefit to us all that both the artist and his works are made known to the general public thanks to this volume created by Menarini”, stated Eike Schmidt, Director of the Uffizi Gallery. “This book, brimming with news, is coming out just days after the closing of the spectacular Fra Angelico exhibition held at the Prado Museum. Right here in Florence you may find the San Marco Museum, where Fra Angelico lived and that now houses most of his masterpieces. Personally - and I can now be completely frank, seeing as the proposal to bring together San Marco Museum and the Uffizi was called off a few days ago - I can say that it is one of the most beautiful museums in the world and I gladly take this opportunity and the presentation of this interesting volume, to invite you all to visit the Museum and admire its treasures".
“Both this volume on Fra Angelico, which renews Menarini’s artistic tradition, and the multimedia project, Menarini Pills of Art, bring younger people closer to art”, said Lucia and Alberto Giovanni Aleotti, Menarini Board Members and Company shareholders. “You can view these short videos, where art experts comment interesting facts on some of the great works featured in our artist monographs, in seven different languages on the Menarini website”.
